About a month ago I posted here because my wife had been offered the lead role in a major German film that includes several intimate nude scenes. I was completely conflicted. I genuinely didn't know what to do or how to process it.

The responses were all over the place, which I expected. Some people told me I should never be okay with it and that it crossed a line in a monogamous marriage. Others said it was just acting, that film sets are highly controlled environments, and that intimate scenes are usually far less glamorous than people imagine.

A few comments really stayed with me though. Some people said that if I stopped her from taking the role, she probably would because she loves me, but that resentment could quietly build over the years. Others said maybe this would strengthen our marriage because we'd have to communicate through something genuinely difficult together instead of avoiding it. Those comments didn't instantly change my mind, but they made me think.

The first thing I did was book an appointment with my therapist. Then I booked another one later that same week. I needed somewhere to say everything I was thinking without worrying about hurting my wife.

I admitted that underneath all the logic, I felt angry. I felt jealous. I kept thinking, "How can another man kiss my wife, touch her body, mouth on her breasts and nipples, suck her breasts or perform simulated intimate acts with her, even if it's all choreographed?" My brain understood it was acting, but emotionally it felt like a violation of what our marriage has always meant to me. I needed to be honest about that instead of pretending I was more comfortable than I actually was.

Around the same time, I asked my wife if she would speak to the director about using a body double for the nude scenes while keeping her for close-ups and the emotional parts. I knew it was a long shot, but I felt like I had to ask.

While we were waiting for an answer, I spent a lot of time reading about how actors and their partners deal with intimate scenes. I read interviews, listened to podcasts, and looked at discussions from people in the industry. I learned a lot about intimacy coordinators, closed sets, choreography, consent, and how technical these scenes actually are. It didn't magically remove my feelings, but it helped me understand the professional side much better.

A week later the answer came back. The director said he couldn't reduce or replace those scenes because they were considered essential to the story and to the emotional journey of the characters. After reading the script again, I honestly understood why he said no, even if I didn't like the answer.

Then my wife and I had probably the hardest conversation we've ever had.

I told her everything. I told her I still felt like it was a form of infidelity, even though I knew it wasn't a real relationship. I admitted I was angry that she could even consider doing something that challenged the boundaries I had always believed our marriage was built on.

She didn't argue with me. She didn't tell me I was insecure or unreasonable. She just listened.

Then she said something that completely changed the atmosphere.

She looked at me and said our marriage mattered more than any film. If this role meant losing my trust or damaging what we've built together, she would call the production the next morning and turn it down without hesitation.

I'll be honest—that reduced my anxiety by at least half.

For the first time since this all started, I felt like I hadn't already lost her to her career. Just hearing that she was willing to walk away reminded me that I was still her priority.

But I also asked her one question.

"Is that really what you want?"

She told me no.

She wanted to make the film. She would only be turning it down because of me.

That hit me hard.

I realised that if she gave up the biggest opportunity of her career because I couldn't cope with it, there was a real possibility that years from now she'd quietly wonder what might have happened. Maybe she'd never say it out loud, but I didn't want to become the reason she always had that question in the back of her mind.

I don't want to spend the rest of my life wondering if I protected my marriage by making my wife unhappy.

So I told her to accept the role.

Not because I'm suddenly okay with it.

I'm not.

But because I'd rather face something difficult together than make a decision out of fear.

Since then I've also met the intimacy coordinator. We talked for quite a while about how these scenes are planned, how consent works, how choreography is rehearsed, what closed sets actually mean, and what everyone's responsibilities are. She even said I was welcome to be present for one of the scenes if I wanted to better understand the process—not because I don't trust my wife, but because sometimes understanding removes some of the mystery.

The filming starts in December.

There are three intimate scenes in total, each filmed over two days and spread across different months of production.

Until then, my wife and I have started couples therapy together. We've also been making a conscious effort to spend quality time together. We recently took a trip with just the two of us, and honestly it reminded me why we've lasted so long. She's been incredibly patient, affectionate, and understanding throughout all of this. She never dismisses my feelings, even when we disagree.

Where am I emotionally now?

I'm better than I was a month ago, but I'm not okay.

A part of me still feels like this crosses a line inside a marriage. I still feel hurt. I still feel angry sometimes. Those feelings haven't disappeared just because we made a decision.

At the same time, I also know she's never given me a reason not to trust her.

So right now I'm living with two things that seem to contradict each other: complete trust in my wife, and genuine discomfort with what her job is about to require. Maybe those feelings can exist at the same time. I honestly don't know.

The shoot begins in December, and I have no idea how I'm going to feel when it actually happens.

I said in my first post that I wanted to be honest, and that's what I'm going to keep doing. I'll probably continue posting here every month or so, whether things get easier or harder, because writing these updates has helped me process everything.

There is no such thing as kind of Infidelity! There is no Infidelity here unless she does it in spite of your objections. You are getting into the Cuckold realm and you seem to be leaning that way.

I hope you don’t ever regret your choice.

This is a very difficult situation and I feel like it is a no-win for you. If you tell her to decline the role you will always wonder if she respects you for it. If you give permission to take the part, you may be bothered by it for years.

I don’t have an answer but I cross my fingers that it does not bother you years from now.

In my opinion, it was cruel and selfish of your wife to put you in this position in the first place. She has crafted this situation where no matter what you do, you will suffer greatly, and she will have a sort of plausible deniability of why it isn't her fault, or her problem that you're suffering.

Ask her not to do it and she will resent you. Let her do it and you suffer. You are in a no-win situation where the only option you have going forward is suffering. That doesn't seem like a great relationship dynamic to me.

This is just my perspective. But I wouldn't consider myself as having a marriage built on mutual love and respect, if my wife put me in this sort of a position, or if I were to put her in this position.

Good luck man, I don't see any future for you now that doesn't involve suffering. I'm very sorry.

Hang on. Why we are blaming the wife for "putting Joshkenn in a bad position again?" She gave him the opportunity to say "No" and she would have respected that boundary. Her feelings about the answer are hers to deal with, not Josh's. It's not her fault if he's taking unnecessary responsibility for them and not enforcing his own boundaries.

It's not infidelity if you give her explicit permission.

I'm not arguing... I'm calibrating

It's not infidelity.

ETA: I'm divorced. While still married in a similar situation I'd have said that I wasn't comfortable with sex scenes and left it at that.

This is such an uncomfortable situation that I don't know what I would do if I were in the same spot. My wife does small acting roles on occasion too. To date, nothing has required something I've been uncomfortable with. But I still fear for something like this to possibly occur.

You will likely have to treat this like recovering from infidelity even though there is none. It will still take between 2-5 years to not think about it every day (if lucky), but maybe better because you know the act was not something emotional or even truly sexual for pleasure. It's going to hurt, but it won't destroy you the same way her cheating would.

I don't know what to suggest, other than continue with the therapy. There isn't any way to undo this feeling. I would likely tell her in advance that even though you love her, respect her, admire her bravery and talents, you will likely never watch the film due to the effect it would have on you to see her in such a situation. It would play in your head forever. Maybe when you're both elderly and no longer sexual you might be able to. But hopefully she'll respect your decision here should you make it.

Relief that I may have helped him? Yes, thanks for asking!

As they say on SI. Take what you need and leave the rest.

Nah I doubt that you have helped him. For sure you didn't help the most shuttered guy who reads this and doesn't participate.

Joshkenn

Your story is so unusual that I have my doubts that it is real, but assuming that it is, there is a very minimal chance of your wife feeling somehow drawn sexually to this, I would say that the greatest risk is you getting to much in your head and the second is your wife feeling violated. But that's what the emulated (not simulated) sex scene manager is for, to make it as unsexual as possible by design. I think you made the right decision, just get out of your head, there's a great chance that your wife's doctor has more "intimacy" with her. Also, I don't think that this is the appreciate forum for you.

No, you don't get to quote the rules as a shield after having broken them yourself.

Specifically: you broke the rule: "Please refrain from name calling, attacking or shaming."

You rightly identify that the OP's situation is not exactly infidelity, but then you feel the need to make your own evaluation regarding cuckery. That's messed up, and it has little to do with this forum.

What if a guy's wife had a male OB doctor? Would you feel the need to call him a cuck? What about guys who let their wives go through airport scanners, are they cucks? Maybe, but this forum is not meant to be the cuck identification forum. Go make your own forum for that.
